1.Voter Registration
Deadline to Register/Update: Election Day, November 5, 2024
2. Check Your Registration
Why check your registration? Your address is where election officials send notices, application forms to receive your ballot in the mail, and more. Additionally, poll workers will check if the address on your voter registration matches the address on your ID at the polls.
Checklist:
- Is your name spelled correctly? (Correct hyphenations, middle initials, etc)
- Correct Address
- Active Voter Status (if not update by sending in another online/mail voter application)
- Correct Date of Birth
- Correct Political Party Preference
- Take a time-stamped photograph or screenshot of your registration, and take it with you to the polls as proof of your registration.
3. Voter ID Law

Colorado requires voters to present non-photo identification (ID) while voting. Accepted forms of ID include valid Colorado driver’s licenses, valid U.S. passports, and certified copies of U.S. birth certificates.
Voters may also need to return a photocopy of their ID with their ballots if they are voting by mail for the first time. Click here for more information.
See below for a list of all accepted forms of ID:
- A valid Colorado driver’s license or valid identification card issued by the Colorado Department of Revenue. (Note: documents issued to not lawfully present and temporarily lawfully present individuals under Part 5 of Article 2 of Title 42, C.R.S. are not acceptable forms of identification.)
- A valid U.S. passport.
- A valid employee identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. government or of Colorado, or by any county, municipality, board, authority, or other political subdivision of Colorado.
- A valid pilot’s license issued by the federal aviation administration or other authorized agency of the U.S.
- A valid U.S. military identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector.
- A copy of a current (within the last 60 days) utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows the name and address of the elector.
- A Certificate of Degree of Indian or Alaskan Native Blood.
- A valid Medicare or Medicaid card issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- A certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate for the elector.
- Certified documentation of naturalization.
- A valid student identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector issued by an institute of higher education in *Colorado, as defined in section 23-3.1-102(5), C.R.S..
- A valid veteran identification card issued by the U.S. department of veterans affairs veterans health administration with a photograph of the eligible elector.
- A valid identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government certifying tribal membership.
Any form of identification listed above that shows your address must show a Colorado address to qualify as an acceptable form of identification.
The following documents are also considered acceptable forms of identification for voting:
- Verification that a voter is a resident of a group residential facility, as defined in section 1-1-104(18.5), C.R.S.
- Verification that a voter is a person committed to the department of human services and confined and eligible to register and vote shall be considered sufficient identification of such person for the purposes of section 1-2-210.5, C.R.S.
- Written correspondence from the county sheriff or his or her designee to the county clerk indicating that a voter is confined in a county jail or detention facility.
4. Order Your Absentee Mail Ballot
Deadline to Register in Order to Receive Mail Ballot: Must be received by October 5, 2024
Every voter receives a mail ballot. The ballot will be sent to the mailing address you provided for your voter registration file. To check the address on file, or to make any changes to your voter registration visit www.GoVoteColorado.gov.
If you prefer to vote at the polls, you can vote in-person at a voter service and polling center. Please visit www.GoVoteColorado.gov to find your polling locations.
Deadline to return Mail Ballot: Must be received by your county elections office no later than November 5, 2024
If you have filled out your absentee ballot, but do not believe it will be mailed in on time, you can drop off ballots at designated drop off locations, drop-box locations no later than 7:00 PM on Election Day.
Surrendering Your Absentee Ballot:
- Colorado has the Surrender Rule. If you want to vote in person on Election Day, “you must surrender your mail ballot and vote at a designated voter service and polling center”. All voters who vote in-person must provide identification in the form of Colorado driver’s license or Colorado ID. The deadline to vote in-person is 7:00 PM on Election Day.

5. Early Voting Information
In-person early voting is available from October 21 – November 5, 2024.
If you want to vote in-person, you may return your mail ballot and vote in-person at a voter service and polling center. Even if you do not return your mail ballot you may still vote in person. Once you vote in person your county clerk will not accept for counting any ballot that was mailed to you. The deadline to vote in-person is 7:00 PM on Election Day.
